Let’s rethink to develop Nigeria – Tunji Abayomi

Akoko-based Legal Practitioner, Tunji Abayomi

From Abdulfatah Babatunde, Akure

Renowned Constitutional Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Dr Tunji Abayomi has urged Nigerians to embrace new thinking that will put Nigeria on the path of development.

Abayomi told newsmen on Saturday in Akure, Ondo State, that there was a need for Nigerians to develop better maturity.

“Losing in a contest is part of life and we need to focus on our national growth and respect legal institutions,” he said.

According to him, as issue of Presidential Election Petitions had been resolved, we needed to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Nigerians must rally around him to develop the nation. The mark of a leader is to be strong when he loses and be weak when he wins.

“I want to salute President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his maturity throughout the period of the Presidential Election Petition.

“Despite constant attacks, innuendo and all sorts of unwarranted vituperations, yet he maintained a common touch on the high calling.

“All over Africa, there is need for a new thinking, the desperation and frustration during and after elections, is totally unnecessary.

“I think we need to come to a new realisation. All this desperation to get there at all costs is unnecessary.

“We condemned INEC and the Court simply because we want to be there, even when we are not entitled to be there.

“We fight so much over an election. It is only one man that will be there at a time. There are so many roles we can play in the development of our nation,” he said.

Abayomi, a former APC Senatorial Aspirant for Ondo North, said President Tinubu should now focus on governance.

“We need to extend our expectations for better governance of our nation to the Legislative and even the Judiciary.

“Governance under democracy is divided into three parts, that is the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary”, he noted.

He also commented critically on some issues raised by the two main opposition candidates, Atiku Abubakar of PDP and Peter Obi of LP.

“Any elementary legal mind will understand that their fight was an exercise in futility.”
