The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called on opposition parties to lend their support to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Addressing journalists at the presidential villa during his congratulatory visit to Tinubu, Abbas expressed that the court’s judgment had been anticipated.
Tinubu had secured a validation of his victory at the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court declared that petitions of both Atiku Abubakar from PDP and Peter Obi from Labour Party lacked merit.
A seven-member panel presided over by Inyang Okoro, delivered the ruling at the Supreme Court on Thursday in Abuja.
Both Atiku and Obi had separately sought to overturn the decision of the presidential election petition court (PEPC). PEPC had earlier upheld Tinubu’s presidency.
Abbas urged those who lost their appeals to remain resilient, emphasising that in any competition, there can only be one victor.
“To God be the glory. This outcome was not unforeseen. We have been anticipating this. We knew it ultimately,” he remarked.
