The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved two new courses for the Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech), Lagos.
Dr Ismaila Badmus, Deputy Rector (Academic) announced the new approval in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith on Tuesday in Lagos.
The new courses include Photography and Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology.
NBTE is the regulatory body for technical education in the country.
The Board conveyed the approval in a letter to Rector of the College, Dr Abdul Adedotun Ibraheem.
“With reference to Resource Inspection exercise carried out by the Board at your Institution from 5th to 9th June 2023, I am directed to inform you that the Board has granted approval to your institution to offer the programmes,’’ the letter read in part.
In the letter, signed by Arc Ngbede Ogoh, Director of Polytechnic Programmes, the board added that “Admission of students into the programme should commence from the 2023/2024 session.”

Reacting to the approval, the Rector thanked the board for granting the college’s request, after a thorough inspection.
He praised the regulatory body for its cooperation in providing tailor-made courses for the needs of the Nigerian youths.
Abdul remarked that the approval was a testimony to the foresight and the capacity of the College to introduce and teach new courses.
“This is in line with emerging national and global needs. The approval will enable the College to develop the skills of the youths.
“It will also make them competitive globally and enable them contribute required manpower to maximise opportunities in the oil and gas industry,’’ the Rector said.
