The Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG), on Thursday, inaugurated the Occupational Therapy and Neuromodulation Rehabilitation Centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano under its Hospital Support Programme (HSP) Phase 1 projects.
The NewsZenith reports that the company had, on Monday, started the new round of project inaugurations with the opening of a 120-bed Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ward at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
In a statement, on Thursday, Andy Odeh, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development of NLNG, said the next inauguration would be at Yenagoa, Bayelsa.
According to him, NLNG would also open a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Yenagoa, to be followed by a Neurosurgical and Stroke Centre at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar.
At the inauguration in Kano, Odeh quoted the NLNG’s Managing Director, Dr Philip Mshelbila, as reiterating the NLNG’s vision of being a globally competitive LNG Company helping to build a better Nigeria.
“The company yearns to support medical field in shoring-up standard of health of citizenry and foreigners domiciled in Nigeria.
“NLNG took on the HSP programme and the responsibilities of supporting healthcare infrastructure as an intervention.
“This is because, achieving universal health coverage for a nation of over 200 million people is a race against time.
“While our intervention takes up a slice of the financial need in our country’s health sector, we do note that for the sake of sustainability, preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyles are imperative for national wherewithal,” Mshelbila said.
He said this is in anticipation that Nigeria may have population of 400 million people in next 27 years.
He called on corporate organisations to join in supporting the healthcare delivery system and strengthening the medical field in Nigeria.
The new AKTH project comprised of two-winged bungalow with associated wards facilities for female, children, nurses’ station and ward-round room.
The bungalow consists rooms for EEG, RTMS, ECT, patient waiting and recovery room. There are also physiotherapy hall and skill acquisition hall with associated toilet facilities.

The building also has smoke and fire alarm detecting systems, CCTV and intercom systems.
At the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Yenagoa, NLNG will open a one-storey building housing the Intensive Care Unit.
The unit features a six-bed Intensive Care Unit and four-bed Renal Dialysis Unit connected to the existing operating theatre.
Also at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), the team will inaugurate an 18-bed Neurosurgical and Stroke Centre.
The centre is equipped with nine-bed male and nine-bed female wards, an operating theatre, three consulting offices, a pharmacy, two sleep-in rooms, nursing and recovery rooms and other associated facilities.
These three inaugurations will wrap up Phase 1 of the NLNG’s HSP.
The HSP is NLNG’s national Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
It aims to boost healthcare delivery in 12 Federal University Teaching Hospitals across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
The programme started in 2022 with a maternity centre at University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada under Phase-1 projects.
Also that year, NLNG provided an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) under same Phase-1.
In February, NLNG began Phase-2 by signing MoU with University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital to equip its Haemodialysis Centre.
Also, NLNG will renovate and equip accident and emergency unit and theatre at University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).
And at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Jos, NLNG will construct and equip a twin theatre suite.
