Modern policing: CSOs honour IGP Baba

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance, on Thursday, honoured the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba with the award of “Grand Defender of Democracy”.

This is in recognition of his many achievements the Nigeria Police has recorded since assuming leadership of the Force.

“The Coalition comprises leaders of 37 Pro-Democracy and Civil Society Organisations,” CPS Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force PRO said in a statement mailed to The NewsZenith on Friday.

Adejobi stated that the CSOs conferred the honour on Baba during a solidarity visit to the Louis Edet House.

The coalition applauded the effective leadership qualities of the IG, which has led to unprecedented improvement in the Police Force.

Among such achievements, they listed, are human rights compliance, discipline, welfare, infrastructural transformation, decent and secure electoral process in Nigeria.

Leader of the delegation, Comrade Femi Lawson, expressed satisfaction with recent policing strategies, improved human relations.

Lawson, particularly eulogised the sterling leadership qualities of the IG Baba.

Responding, the IG acknowledged and thanked the coalition for the honour.

He appreciated their respective efforts targeted at deepening democracy in the country.

Baba reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to continuous improvement of security networking and the general safety of the country.
