The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye, has slumped and died after a meeting at the headquarters in Abuja.
TheNewsZenith quotes a source within the commission as confirming that Ijalaye slumped and died on Monday evening shortly after attending a crucial meeting in Abuja.
However, the news of his death has not been announced by the commission or his family, as of press time.
The source added that the REC had returned to his hotel room when the tragic incident occurred.
And, the cause of his death is yet unknown.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, presided over the meeting.
Discussions at the meeting centred on the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.
The meeting also discussed seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
It was gathered that Ijalaye, who is from Ondo State, was in high spirits and participated actively during the meeting. Later in the evening, he slumped and died.
Ijalaye, who was dressed in a blue-striped Kaftan with a red cap, was seen in one of the pictures posted by the commission on its timeline during the meeting.
INEC posted him to Ogun State in March 2022 following the transfer of Olusegun Agbaje to Lagos State.
