OYSG warns against encroachment into govt school land

The Oyo State government has warned trespassers against encroaching into land belonging to public schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Prof. Abdulwaheed Adelabu, gave the warning while on a routine visit to St. Agnes Basic School, Iluju, Ogbomoso on Friday in Oyo State.

Adelabu decried the alarming rate at which land grabbers are encroaching onto the premises and properties of the schools.

“Government’s policies on encroachment on land still remain. Encroachment of any nature will not be entertained by the state government,” he said.

The commissioner emphasised that the learning environment is supposed to be totally void of distraction. He stressed the need to enforce discipline in order to provide quality education.

Adelabu directed the Education Secretary of Oriire Local Government to investigate the matter. He further directed the secretary should report back to the ministry, through the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

In a related development, Prof. Adelabu has urged Headteachers of the 21 Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) public primary schools to evolve innovative measures in the day-to-day administration of their schools.

The commission gave the charge during a series of meetings with some BESDA-focused school head teachers in the State.

Adelabu stressed the importance of basic education to the overall development of the country. He noted most development partners, focus more on supporting primary education in the country.

He thanked all teachers for their support to the Gov. Seyi Makinde-led administration. The commissioner said the state government would not relent in its efforts to make the basic education sub-sector more attractive for better education.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary of SUBEB, Mr Jacob Dairo, warned against the collection of illegal fees. Dairo added that the state government has prohibited the collection of fees.
