POLAC tragedy: IGP condoles family, set-up inquiry

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has set up a seven-man Panel of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the tragic death of a police cadet at the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced this in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith on Tuesday in Lagos.

“IGP set up the inquiry to unravel the cause of the tragic death of Cadet Sulaiman Jika,” Adejobi stated. Jika reportedly died, on Friday, Sept. 1, at the college.

“This is in response to the tragic incident at the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State, where a promising young cadet, Sulaiman Jika, lost his life.”

According to the statement,  the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abiodun Alabi. headed the panel.

“It has a mandate to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cadet’s death.

“The IGP has set deadline of four days for the panel to furnish comprehensive report detailing its findings and recommendations.

Other members of the panel include AIG Training and Development, AIG Oyeyemi Oyediran; Force Medical Officer, CP Garba Emmanuel Nzukwen and CP Homicide FCID, CP Fom Pam Joseph.

Also on the panel are CP Training POLAC, CP Patrick Edung and Principal Staff Officer II to IGP, ACP Idris Abubakar. A representative of CP Legal will serve as the secretary of the panel

“The IGP extends his heartfelt condolences and commiserations to the family and relations of Sulaiman Jika and the academy community.

“He assured that he is deeply empathetic to their pains and loss. The Force will do the needful to ensure justice is done in the case,” the statement further read in part.
