Police arraign man, 27, for alleged phone theft

The Police have arraigned a 27-year-old man, Taiwo Emmanuel, in Ibadan for allegedly breaking into a telecommunication company and stealing a mobile phone worth N383,000.

Emmanuel, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of office breaking and stealing before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 30, at 10.00 p.m. at Globacom Telecommunication Centre, Oke-Ado in Ibadan.

Amusan further told the court that the defendant unlawfully entered the office without the consent of the company officials and with the intent to steal.

He said that the defendant stole one Samsung A 25-5G phone valued at N383,000, which belonged to the company.

He said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 413 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The court president, Mrs Sukurat Yusuf, granted the defendant a N400,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until Oct. 2 for a hearing.
