Police arrest suspected cultists in Sagamu in Ogun state

The Police, on Monday, confirmed they arrested 19 suspected in connection with recent clashes in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.

TheNewsZenith reports that eight persons died in the cult clashes in the town.

Omolola Odutola, the Police Spokespersion, announced the arrest in a statement circulated on Monday in Abeokuta.
Odutola said operatives arrested the suspects at different locations in the Sagamu area through combined efforts of various formations.
According to her, during the operation, the Police arrested a suspected kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity (name withheld). Security said Hammed allegedly responsible for attacks against rival cult groups.
“On the 24th of September 2023, a successful tactical operation carried out by the Ogun State Police Command led to the arrest of the kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity.
“This notorious cultist has been widely known for his involvement in gruesome attacks against rival cult groups in Ogun State.
“The operation was a result of a combined effort between the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the Anti-Cultism Unit (AKU) and the Obalende Division of the police force.

“Acting on intercepted information, the operation targeted the suspected cultists who had been causing terror in various areas including Odogbolu, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode and Ilishan.
“All of the individuals (suspects’ names withheld) have confessed to being active members of different cult groups,” the spokesperson stated.
She further stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered an immediate investigation of the suspects.
Odutola, quoted the commissioner as pledging to keep the public informed of further developments on the case.
The Command, in conjunction with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria on Sept. 19, arrested seven suspected cultists.
It also recovered firearms, three live cartridges and criminal charms in connection with the cult clashes in Sagamu.
The raid followed a bloody cult clash between two rival cult groups known as Aiye and Eiye.
