Police neutralise terrorist attack in Katsina

The Police, on Monday, said they neutralised a suspected terrorist and repelled his group’s attack on Magamar-Jibia in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The state command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, announced this in a statement Monday evening in Katsina.

“Today Monday, Jan. 2, at about 0430 hours, terrorists in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked a police nipping point at Magama-Hirji junction, along Jibia – Katsina road.

“The policemen engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them,” Isah stated.

He said that one of the terrorists was neutralised.

“Operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle with four magazines containing 90 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 rifles.”

He added that operatives recovered money and other exhibits after the encounter.

According to him, many of the terrorists escaped with gunshot injuries.

Two policemen also sustained injuries during the encounter, he added.

Isah stated that the injured policemen received treatment at the Jibia hospital and discharged, thereafter.

He further stated that search parties are still combing the area to arrest or recover more dead bodies of the terrorists.
