President Tinubu suspends CBN Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect.

The suspension is contained in signed by Willie Bassey, Director, Information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation

This is a sequel to ongoing investigation of CBN and the planned reforms in financial sector of the economy.

The Presidency directed Emefiele to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate).

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr Folashodun Shonubi as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The office of the SGF asked the suspended CBN Governor, Mr Emefiele to hand over to him with immediate effect.

“Following the directive suspending Emefiele from office, the government directed him to hand over the affairs of the CBN to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate).”

Shonubi will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
