The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria Lagos State Area Unit (MSSNLagos), has called on the Federal Government to prioritise investment in education.
It asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led government to also, prevent education unions strike in her scheme of things.
The society made the call at its two-day Annual Conference, which ended late Sunday at the University of Lagos, Akoka.
It called appealed to President Bola Tinubu to prevent a situation where education unions would go on strike again.
TheNewsZenith reports that the conference delegates appointed new executive officers to run the affairs of MSSNLagos for next three years.
A Mathematics tutor, Kamoldeen Abiona emerged as the new Amir (President) of MSSNLagos with Mukhtar Oyetunji and AbdulKabeer Kuye as Naibul Amir (Vice President) and Naibul Amir (Vice President – GRAMA) respectively.
Others exco members are AbdulAzeez AbdurRaheem as General Secretary; Taofeeq Ogundele, Assistant Secretary; Miftahudeen Raji, Public Relations Officer and AbdulHafeez Odusanya, Assistant PRO.
Also appointed were Qamarudeen Alabi as Financial Secretary; Qasim Musa, Internal Auditor; Fasanya AbdulWaasi’, Editor and Mustapha Muhammad as Director of Studies among others.
In his acceptance remarks, the new Amir, Abiona called on the government at all levels to invest heavily in education.
He listed industrial actions, poor infrastructure and economic hardship as chronic challenges forcing many youths to seek greener pastures abroad.

“Finding lasting solution to industrial actions by both academic and non-academic unions should be of priority to the Federal Government.
“We need to do something urgently and by all means to stop brain-drain,” he added.
Immediate past Amir, Miftahudeen Thanni, earlier remarked that investing in education sector “is not a luxury but necessity”.
“As we move into a new dispensation of ‘Renewed Hope’ in our national polity, we urge the Federal Government to invest more on the education.
“We don’t want strikes again and this can be achieved by investing more in education,” Thanni.
Sen. Shuaib Salisu, who is the immediate past President of the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) urged youths to rise up to the challenges of their generation.
Salisu, representing Ogun Senatorial District, also commended the Lagos State Area Unit for the successfully conducting its electoral conference.
“When student-based organisations like this come together, they are renewing the hope of our country.
“They are also renewing role to play in building the nation of our dream,” Salisu, also past MSSN-UNILAG President said.
