The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has urged the faithful to remain steadfast, increase in devotion and embrace good deeds to maximise the gains of Ramadan.
In a statement, the Secretary-General of OMC, Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde, e-mailed to TheNewsZenith on Thursday.
The Council advised Nigerians to avoid provocation in the face of the current economic realities. It charged them not to take the law into their own hands.
“Avoid any temptation under the guise of protesting the present challenging time,” the statement added.
It noted that Nigerians will overcome the prevailing economic hardship with patience, understanding, perseverance, sacrifice and patriotic attitude.
OMC noted that the season of Ramadan requires self-restraint, obedience and discipline, urging the fasting Muslims and others to be Ramadan compliant by keeping to the “dos” and “don’ts” of the fasting season.
“Ramadan is a month of mercy, generosity, charity and benevolence. We implore the privileged and those who have to assist the less privileged. And those who have not, by making edibles available at mosques and other fora during Ramadan.”
OMC advised food vendors and marketers against hiking food prices while charging them against ungodly behaviour such as food hoarding and adulteration for economic gains.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Muslim Council OMC has noted the coincidence of Ramadan fasting and Christian Lenten season as a good omen.
It urged followers of both faiths to pray fervently for the country to get out of the economic woods.
The Council decried the seemingly rival posture of the religious-minded Nigerians. It implored them to eschew rivalry.
OMC also charged preachers of both faiths to incorporate love, tolerance, peace, harmonious living, and religious understanding, in their sermons.
It urged scholars and leaders to guide against inflammatory statements that can incite and ignite crisis.
Nigeria is faced with a myriad of challenges being tackled by the leadership at all fronts and, therefore, cannot tolerate an aggravation of the challenges.
