Reckless driver kills pedestrian in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended a reckless private car driver after killing a pedestrian on Saturday.

LASTMA’s Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Mr Toafiq Adebayo confirmed the accident in a statement in Lagos.

Adebayo said the accident happened around Yaya Abatan by College Road, Ogba, Ikeja.

He said a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the unregistered white Mercedes Benz (CLA 250) car lost control as a result of overspeeding.

In the process, he said the driver hit an innocent passerby who died instantly.

“LASTMA personnel promptly apprehended the driver while attempting to run away.

“LASTMA Commander in Agege Iju-Ifako axis, Akinola Ganiyu, led the rescue team.

“The Commandant has handed the driver over to policemen from Area ‘G’ command for further investigations,” Adebayo said.

He added that while the LASTMA had cleared the road for free vehicular movement, families of the deceased had also removed the corpse.
