Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), on Thursday, said the current administration inherited a tough period in terms of insecurity and appealed to citizens to be patient.
Ribadu made the appeal at the ongoing 19th Annual All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He solicited the cooperation of all Nigerians in eliminating all forms of insecurity.
TheNewsZenith reports that the theme of the 19th ANEC is “Stimulating Economic Growth, Technological Advancement: Role of the Media”.
“It is a tough time. We are not condemning anyone but that is the truth and the reality.
“Those who are in charge must say the truth and say it as it is,” he said.
Ribadu, however, said the situation would soon get be better. According to him, it is not going to be for too long for things to get better.
The NSA said the militancy in the Niger Delta had reduced drastically. He added that insecurity in the South-East geo-political Zone too had been curtailed since the current administration came on board.
“In Niger Delta, at the time we took over, crude oil production stood at 1.1mbd. Our OPEC quota is 1.8mbd, but today, our production has hit 1.7mbd.
“We have witnessed three weeks without any incident of security challenge in the Niger Delta. This is the first time in many years, but we don’t talk about it.

“In the South-East, last year, we had 46 police stations attacked. Today, we don’t have a single one attacked.
“The leadership we have in our country now understands things a bit better,” he said.
Ribadu said the Federal Government would continue to do its possible best to improve the welfare of citizens and remain transparent.
He gave the assurance that the President Bola Tinubu administration will tackling the challenges.
“We have given Nigeria to President Bola Tinubu to manage for us. In the last five months, I have been by his side and seen how things are.
“We inherited a tough period. We appeal for patience and understanding.”
The NSA also solicited the support of Nigerian Editors to join the federal government in the task of nation-building.
“I appeal to you for support. We are going through tough times. It requires all of us to come together,” appealed.
