Abeokuta, Jan. 22, ’25 (TNZ) An Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta on Wednesday, sentenced Jamiu Malomo, to death by hanging for stabbing an alleged sex worker, Asisat Akande to death in July 2018.

TheNewsZenith reports that the court convicted the 22-year-old Malomo on a one-count charge of murder.

Convicting Malomo, Justice O. Ogunfowora said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that he was guilty as charged.

Ogunfowora held that the prosecution’s evidence was tenable and, therefore, he sentenced Malomo to death by hanging.

“You are hereby guilty of killing Asisat Akande as preferred against you.

“You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on you,” the judge said.

Earlier, during the trial, the State Prosecuting Counsel, Mr A.M. Adebayo, Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, said the convict committed the offence on July 18, 2021.

Adebayo said the offence took place at about 9.30 pm at Ori-Apata community, Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta.

He said the convict picked Asisat Akande, who was a sex worker, from the 3AD bar in the Panseke area to his house for sexual pleasure.

“After having carnal knowledge of the deceased, she demanded N10,000, which was their agreement.

“But Malomo refused to give her the complete money, saying he had N8,000.

“The situation led to an argument between him and the deceased. The convict brought out a knife from his pocket and stabbed her in the neck.

“The stab resulted in the instant death of the deceased,” the Counsel said.

Adebayo noted that Malomo was arrested by the police at the 3AD club in Panseke where he wanted to pick another girl for sexual pleasure.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 316, punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, laws of Ogun 2006. (TNZ)
