The Police Command in Bauchi State have arrested the ring leader of a gang, who allegedly participated in killing six NYSC members and two others, 13 years ago.

TheNewsZenith reports that the Commissioner of Police, Awwal Musa Mohammed, paraded the suspect before newsmen on Friday in Bauchi.

Muhammed named the suspect Kabiru Musa (a.k.a. Dawa), the ring leader of a notorious youth gang that killed eight persons.

The commissioner paraded the suspect along with one other Anas Adamu ‘m’ aged 31yrs  in another criminal offence.

The Police arrested them in connection with the death of a 17-year-old girl, Aisha Mohammad around April 26, 2024.

He said Dawa’s gang allegedly killed a policewoman and six NYSC members at Giade LGA, on April 18, 2011.

“One of the offences of Kabiru Dawa was that on 18th April 2011 he led a group of youth to storm Giade Divisional Police Headquarters following the announcement of the 2011 Presidential Election result.

“They armed themselves with dangerous weapons, which included a knife popularly called Barandami, cutlasses, sticks and petrol.

“They attacked policewoman F/No. 020827 W/PC. Rifkatu Bappa who was on counter duty at the charge room.

“As a result, she sustained injuries and the Police immediately evacuated her to FMC Azare where a medical doctor confirmed her dead.

“The said Kabiru Dawa’s gang members set ablaze one Toyota Starlet kept for safekeeping during the peak of the attack.

“In furtherance of this dastardly act, the said Dawa attacked burned down the station.

“This act led to the gruesome murder of six corps members who were at the station for safety,” Muhammed said.

Accordign to him, the gang also buggled shops and carted away valuables. They thus further caused a breakdown of law and order.

The commissioner said the Police had earlier arraigned the suspect before a court in a related case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

“The incident occurred on the 26th of April, 2024 at about 10.30 a.m. when some water vendors discovered the decomposed body of an adult girl in a well situated in Unguwar Tudun Maje, Giade town.

“Following the discovery of the decomposed body, they reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters Giade.

“The DPO drafted his men to the scene and took the body to General Hospital Giade where a doctor certified her dead.

“Subsequently, the DPO invited the residents to identify the corpse. They identified her as Aisha Mohammad aged 17,” the commissioner said.

During interrogation, he said the first defendant denied the allegation against him while the second accused freely confessed to the crime and confirmed that they killed the said Aisha and dumped her body in the well.

The commissioner said the second accused named Dawa (first accused) as his boss.

“After a manhunt for a decade, the suspect (Dawa) has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

“He will be arraigned in court based on the findings of the investigation,” Mohammed said.
