The TinCan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted three containers loaded with illicit drugs, valued at over N682 million.
TheNewsZenith reports that the Customs Area Controller for the Command, Dera Nnadi, announced the seizure on Wednesday in Lagos.
Nnadi was speaking at the stakeholder engagement, Nnadi, where he handed the confiscated drugs over to officials of the National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He said Customs made the seizure through actionable intelligence and interagency collaboration with the NDLEA.
“You are all witnessing the successful interception and handover of the drugs to NDLEA.
“The seized containers, which arrived from a source country, contained 684 packets of cannabis Indica, weighing 341.025 kilogrammes.
“We conducted a joint 100 per cent physical examination on a container Numbered MSMU 518030/2 (1x40ft) on Aug. 2
“During the examination, we discovered 77 packets of cannabis Indica weighing 38.5 kg,” Nnadi said.
He added that the container owner had declared it to contain three used vehicles.

The Command’s operatives also examined another container, numbered MSMU 602957/0 (1x40ft) on Aug. 8.
“The container contained 532 packets of cannabis indica weighing 265.025 kg. However, no declaration had been entered for this consignment.
“Our men also examined another container numbered FSCU 927461/3 (1x40ft) on Aug. 8.
“It contained 75 packets of cannabis indica weighing 37.5 kg. Similar to the second container, no declaration have been entered,” TheNewsZenith quotes Nnadi as stating.
The Area Controller emphasised the importance of interagency collaboration in tackling the menace of illegal drug importation.
He said the service would deploy all necessary resources and strategies at its disposal.
He also pledged more collaboration with other security and regulatory agencies to check the menace of illegal importation of illicit and dangerous substances.
Nnadi further hinted that NDLEA is currently conducting further investigations into the interdictions, with updates on arrests and prosecutions.
He said that the operation demonstrated underscored the commitment of the NCS and NDLEA to safeguarding Nigerian society from the dangers of illicit drugs.
