The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) says it is elated by the reopening of the Warri Refinery, describing it as an unexpected New Year gift from President Bola Tinubu’s administration to Nigerians.

The group’s Chairman Emeka Nwankpa gave commendation in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith on Friday in Lagos.

It expressed a surprise to see the first phase of the rehabilitation of the 125,000/bpd refinery completed without a fuss.

“Coming within a few weeks after the old 60,000 bpd Port Harcourt refinery began operation, not many Nigerians expected that the Warri Refinery would be restarted soon.

“This is, especially after several missed deadlines on the Port Harcourt plant,” TheNewsZenith quotes the statement as read in part.

Like many Nigerians, the group see this as another positive development from the effort initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari, in 2021, took the first step towards the complete overhaul of all four government-owned refineries.

“Recall how several sceptics, particularly politically exposed persons, accused the then President of going on a wild goose chase.

“Others claimed the ruling APC was simply setting funds aside for the 2023 election under the guise of rehabilitating refineries. They claimed the refineries were dead.

“APC has justified the wisdom of Nigerians to retain it in power after President Buhari’s two terms in office.”

TMSG commended President Bola Tinubu for ensuring two of the four refineries began operations in less than two years of his administration.

“This is a big feat, especially as the first two refineries had laid prostate for 16 perfidious years of PDP administrations.

“The government of PDP spent humongous millions of dollars on suspicious Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) that never turned anything around.

“It only left Nigerians more helpless and hopeless,” TMSG further stated.

The group recalled that on assuming office, President Tinubu vowed to complete what his predecessor started.

“He also promised to ensure that Nigeria becomes a net exporter of petroleum products.

“We join eager Nigerians to urge the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to ensure accelerated repair works on the Kaduna Refinery and the 150,000 bpd refinery in Port Harcourt.

“This is to bolster Nigeria’s status as Africa’s leading refiner of petroleum products,” TheNewsZenith further quoted the group as stating.
