The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has extolled the remarkable performance of the country’s contingent to the just-concluded 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.
NOC’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, gave the commendation in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
Nezianya extended the committee’s commendation to all members of Team Nigeria for their remarkable performance at the 13th African Games.
The Games took place in Ghana from March 8 to March 23.
Nezianya quoted NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel as commending Team Nigeria’s dedication and hard work, which enabled it to emerge overall second in the Games.
Team Nigeria won a total of 121 medals, made up of 47 gold, 34 Silver and 40 bronze.
“Your exceptional and unwavering dedication during the Games has brought immense pride and glory to our nation.
“The 13th African Games hold a special place in history. It is the first time since 1965 that the Games were held in three cities – Kumasi, Cape Coast and Accra.

“This unique and momentous occasion provided a platform for athletes from across the continent to showcase their talent and camaraderie.
“Team Nigeria secured a commendable second place overall, behind Egypt. It’s your outstanding accomplishments and relentless pursuit of excellence that captured our hearts,’’ the statement said.
It said they had demonstrated unwavering dedication, resilience, and the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition.
“We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the athletes, coaches, and Nigerian sports journalists who have worked harmoniously to ensure the success of the Games.
“Your tireless efforts, commitment, and cooperation have contributed to the seamless organisation and smooth execution of the events, leaving an indelible mark on the Games’ history.”
The committee also acknowledged the assistance of the government to the Team. It thanked the Minister of Sports, Sen. John Owan Enoh, for his commitment to ensuring the welfare of the athletes and officials.
“His unwavering dedication and efforts to fulfil his promises reflect his genuine concern for Nigerian athletes and their well-being.
“Team Nigeria, your remarkable achievements at the Games serve as an inspiration and testament to the immense talent and potential that exists within our great nation.
“Your exceptional performance has brought not only pride but also renewed hope and belief in the future of Nigerian sports.
“While the journey to success is not without challenges, your unwavering determination, discipline, and teamwork have enabled you to overcome obstacles and reach new heights.
“Your achievements have instilled a sense of pride and unity within our nation, and we are confident that you will continue to shine as beacons of hope and inspiration for future generations,’’ Gumel said in the statement.
