Lagos, Feb. 25, ’25 (TNZ) The Commonwealth Games, Nigeria (CGN), under the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), will organise a programme on the negative effects of drug abuse on Secondary students.
TheNewsZenith reports that the event will take place on Monday, March 10, at the Olympafrica Centre in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State.
Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of the NOC, in a statement, on Tuesday, explained that the objective of this programme is to uphold the fundamental values of the Commonwealth.
The Game’s values include promoting unity, equity and youth empowerment.
It also aims to raise awareness of key global issues affecting global communities.
The programmes will equally serve as a strategic platform to address social vices and drive positive societal change.
NOC’s Secretary-General, Tunde Popoola, noted that the programme on drug abuse would address “one of the social vices plaguing our society”.
It will also promote social interaction among the students, allowing them to meet their counterparts from other schools. They will also learn more about the activities of CGN.
According to Nezianya, the programme is open to students aged between 14 and 17 years in both public and private schools.

CGN, he stated, has invited about 15 schools to participate in the seminar.
“Youths from Amuwo Odofin, using the Olympafrica, will also participate in the programme.
“A renowned Medical Doctor, Dr Adebukola Bojuwoye, will facilitate the programme.
“It will educate the students and other participants on the negative effects of drug use in communities,” TheNewsZenith quotes from the statement.
The participating students will also learn how sports can help as a corrective measure to address these issues, prevalent in society.
They will receive branded T-shirts, a certificate of participation and one volleyball, basketball or football each for the 15 schools. Youths using the OlympAfrica Centre will also get a football.
Mr Habu Gumel, the President of the NOC, will declare the event. (TNZ)
