The Federal Government says the modern integrated cassava processing plant in Igbara-Oke will create 1,000 jobs through the cassava value chain.
Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Dr Jumai Adamu-Tutuwa, announced this, on Monday, in Igbara-Oke, Ondo States.
TheNewsZenith reports that Adamu-Tutuwa was in Igbara-Oke, in Ifedore LGA of the state to inaugurate one of such processing plants.
“The project is in tandem with President Bola Tinubu’s resolve to enhance food security and heighten the nation’s economy,” she said.
She said local technology with available raw materials made the establishment of the plant possible.
According to her, the processing plant would enhance productivity, create jobs and generate wealth in the state.
The DG said that the plant required about 10 tons of cassava roots on a daily basis. It also needs more than 20 farmers to supply an average of 500kg per day.

The plant, she said, had the capacity to promote and enhance rural socio-economic development throughout the cassava value chain.
“Stakeholders in the value chain include farmers, processors, marketers and transporters among others.
“We believe this plant will enhance the capacity of farmers. It will also promote trade and peaceful coexistence in Igbara-Oke Community and its environs.
“It will also address the challenges of post-harvest losses and wastage of cassava products in the community.
“For any country to flourish, it must identify its assets and drive value through constant and market-driven innovative research.

“So, President Bola Tinubu has repositioned the innovation, science and technology sector as one of the critical components to transform the nation’s economy,” Adamu-Tutuwa said.
She advised people of Igbara-Oke Community to make good use of the plant for the development, growth and well-being of the people.
TheNewsZenith gathered that FIIRO and the Igbara-Oke Development Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the operation of the plant.
This is part of the government’s initiative to support rural development and growth.
