The PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, Funke Akindele, on Wednesday appealed to the electorate to protect their votes during the 2023 general elections.
Akindele, a Nollywood star, made the appeal while inaugurating a borehole donated to the residents of the Abule Oja community in the Yaba Development Council Area.
“I am urging our fathers, mothers and youths here to go out there to spread the gospel of Jandor (PDP Governorship Candidate, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran/Funke Akindele to their neighbours and friends.
“You should vote PDP from the presidential election to the House of Assembly election and protect your votes on election day.
“All our candidates are brilliant, intelligent, knowledgeable and capable of delivering on their mandates,” Akindele said.
On the borehole provided, the Nollywood actress said that the gesture was to address the problem of water supply in the community.
She explained that she was born and brought up in the Lagos Mainland, noting that she has come back home to make an impact.
“This is like coming back home; a project like boreholes as a source of water supply to the people is a necessity, not a luxury.
“The government has failed in its responsibility of providing potable water for this community.
“This borehole is what the community needs for their existence.
“I don’t expect the government to perceive the provision of portable water for the people as luxury.
“Jandor and I believe that the welfare of Lagos residents is sacrosanct and that is what we stand for.
“We stand for good governance, we are hungry to serve our people,” she said.
According to her, PDP is ready to govern Lagos for the benefit of the masses.
She said that the PDP candidate chose her as his running-mate because of her love for a better life for women and children as well as her experienced while growing up.
“This is an indication that the interest of the women and children will be better protected under the PDP-led government in Lagos.
“We will fulfil all our promises as we are not products of godfatherism.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Baale of Abule Oja, Chief Ashimiyu Abayomi, expressed appreciation to Akindele for the gesture.
“It is good that she does not forget her base,” Abayomi said.
He urged the candidates to fulfil their promises if elected.
A community leader, Olayiwola Olusoji, said he was surprised that Akindele accepted to sink boreholes in the area.
Olusoji said that the borehole would solve the water supply challenges facing the community for more than eight years now.
