Lagos, April 3, ’26 (TNZ) The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified operational activities ahead of the Easter celebrations to ensure a cleaner Lagos

The Managing Director of the Authority, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, announced this in a statement mailed to TheNewsZenith on Friday in Lagos.

Gbadegesin called on residents to adopt proper waste disposal practices to sustain environmental cleanliness and prevent flooding.

He said the Authority had strengthened waste evacuation arrangements across the metropolis.

“There are additional monitoring and operational supports to ensure prompt service delivery during the festive period.

“Festive seasons typically witness increased waste generation, making it necessary for both service providers and residents to play their respective roles in maintaining a clean environment.

“Residents should embrace simple waste reduction habits such as avoiding unnecessary purchases, reusing materials where possible, and separating recyclable items from general waste,” TheNewsZenith quotes Gbadegesin as appealing.

He assured that LAWMA has positioned its personnel and equipment at critical locations such as markets, motor parks, and high-traffic commercial areas.

This is to ensure effective waste collection throughout the period.

Gbadegesin said the Authority was working closely with licensed Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators to sustain regular domestic waste evacuation.

“They will also respond promptly to service gaps where necessary.

He further advised residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels, road medians, and open spaces.

LAWMA boss warned that such practices could obstruct the free flow of stormwater as the rainy season approaches.

According to him, maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation between government, service providers, and residents.

He reassured Lagosians of LAWMA’s continued commitment to improving service delivery through operational efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, and sustained public enlightenment. (TNZ)
