The Muslim Congress (TMC) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for improving access to essential medicines, describing it as a positive move in healthcare delivery service.

TMC Committee on Social Mobility, the Economy & Politics, chaired by Alhaji Taiwo Bangbala, gave the commendation in the 27th series of its “State of The Nation Address” on Saturday in Lagos.

TheNewsZenith reports that the “State of The Nation Address” is the platform through which the Faith-based organisation (TMC) regularly contributes to national discourse.

The Committee, on quarterly intervals, provides professional and informed suggestions to the government, as its contribution towards nation-building.

Presenting the address, Bangbala commended President Tinubu’s recent Executive Order to introduce zero tariffs, excise duties and Value Added Tax (VAT) on imported pharmaceuticals.

“This is a positive step towards improving access to essential medicines amidst the rising cost of medicines in the country.

“The escalating prices of medicines have made it difficult for Nigerians to afford necessary healthcare. It has also increased the risk of counterfeit drugs flooding the market.

“This situation may force medical professionals to resort to suboptimal treatments that are less effective. And it could equally lead to sporadic epidemic outbreaks.

“But the government, by this move, has taken the right step in revitalising the health sector. This will also promote local production of healthcare products.

“This move will make medicines more affordable for the average Nigerian. It will also encourage investment in the local pharmaceutical industry,” the committee stated.

It noted that Tinubu’s proactive approach to addressing the pharmaceutical issue “demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to the healthcare they need”.

Word-Class Muslim Cemetery Project ready for inauguration

The Committee Chair, who doubles as the Amir (National President) of TMC, used the occasion to announce that the organisation’s dream of having a World-Class cemetery has come to fruition.

Bangbala said the cemetery, located at Iberekodo Village in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, would be inaugurated on Aug. 25.

“The Muslim Congress (TMC) is proud to announce the commissioning of a world-class Muslim Cemetery project.

“It will help in addressing a long-standing challenge faced by the Muslim community, especially in the Southwest.

“This project holds immense importance, serving as a revered final resting place for the departed. It will also offer essential support at the grassroots level.

“However, the deplorable condition of the access road via Mosimi-Moro-Iraye Road, off Ikorodu-Sagamu road, requires immediate attention from the government.

“To this end, we respectfully urge the Ogun State authorities to expedite the repair of the access road.

“This is to ensure unhindered access not only for visitors to the cemetery but, more crucially, for the local community whose daily lives and well-being are significantly impacted by this critical infrastructure,” TheNewsZenith quotes Bangbala as saying.
