The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has commended Gov. Abba Yusuf for addressing the plight of pensioners and paying attention to girl-child education in the state.

TheNewsZenith reports that the commendation is contained in a statement issued by Sani Abba-Yola, Director of Special Duties in the State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs.
According to the statement, the Emir gave the commendation when two state commissioners visited the Palace on Friday.
The Commissioners are Baba Halilu Dantiye of Information and Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Emir said the present administration paid attention to pensioners who had previously been thrown into hardship and poverty due to unpaid pensions and gratuities.
“The difference between paying attention and not paying attention is sometimes the difference between life and death for the pensioner or his family. Some of them have died.
“We must always remember that we are all accountable to God Almighty for not fulfilling our obligations to those who served the state for 35 years,” he said.
The Emir praised Gov. Yusuf for the recent disbursement of N6 billion in gratuity and death benefits to pensioners.
And the additional release of N5 billion for continued payments, alleviating the financial burdens on retired workers.
“The payment of N11 billion within one is certainly commendable,” Sanusi said.
He also noted with delight the governor’s efforts at improving girl-child education in the state.
