Similarly, Dr Kehinde Oyesomi, South West Zone Coordinator of the AMCRON conference, emphasised the need to critically examine AI’s opportunities and challenges in these domains.

Oyesomi remarked that the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping societies, economies, and cultures in profound ways.

“In the realm of mass media and democracy, AI has introduced both opportunities and challenges.

“On one hand, AI-driven technologies are transforming news production, content distribution, audience engagement, and access to information.

“On the other, they raise pressing concerns about misinformation, deepfakes, data privacy, ethical use, algorithmic bias, and the erosion of trust in democratic institutions.

“This conference provides a platform for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and industry leaders to critically examine the intersections of these three domains.

“It seeks to explore how AI is reshaping media practices and democratic participation, to interrogate the risks and unintended consequences of unchecked technological adoption.

“The event will also chart pathways for harnessing AI responsibly to strengthen democratic values and the integrity of public communication. (TNZ)
