Myanmar exports 361,213 tons of rice in Q1

Myanmar exported 361,213 tons of rice in the first quarter of 2023, as compared to 398,745.39 tons registered during the same period last year.

The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) announced on Tuesday in Yangon.

From January to March this year, the Southeast Asian country also exported 260,535 tons of broken rice.

This is as against 218,777.5 tons registered during the same period in 2022, the MRF’s data showed.

China was the top buyer of Myanmar’s rice and broken rice between January and March this year.

It purchased 114,556 tons of rice and 158,690 tons of broken rice during the period, the data showed.

Myanmar exported rice and broken rice to China, the Philippines, Bangladesh, European Union countries and others, according to the MRF.

The Southeast Asian country shipped most of rice and broken rice via sea routes as it has a long coastline.

In Myanmar, rice is the most cultivated crop, followed by beans and pulses.
