Lagos, March 15, ’25 (TNZ) The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has established a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit to drive its commitment to national development.

This is to foster inclusive growth and sustainable impact in communities of operations.

National Public Relations Officer of NCS, ACC Abdullahi Maiwada, announced in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith on Friday in Lagos.

This initiative underscores the Customs’ recognition of its broader responsibility beyond trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

The new CSR Unit will spearhead programmes under the “Customs-Cares” initiative.

NCS designed it to support national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These initiatives will include school renovations, mobile clinic activations, food and medical aid, agricultural support, skills acquisition programs and youth empowerment.

“Through these interventions, the Customs seeks to enhance public trust, strengthen community relations and improve the well-being of Nigerians.

“It recognises the importance of collaboration in achieving this initiative.

“NCS is ready to work with other government agencies, non-governmental organisations, private sector partners and local communities to enhance the success of the project,” TheNewsZenith quote Maiwada as stating.

He said the launching of the programme marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

This is with structured programmers for nationwide implementation.

“NCS, Under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, remains dedicated to integrating social responsibility into its core operations.

“This strategic direction aligns with the Presidential Priority Areas. It also reinforces the NCS’s role as a socially responsible institution,” the statement further read.

Through “Customs Cares”, NCS would complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

It will also strengthen community engagement and staff participation in nation-building efforts.

Maiwada stated that NCS encourages officers, stakeholders and the general public to embrace the Customs Cares initiative. It is a collective effort to drive positive change. (TNZ)
