Benin, Feb. 23, ’25 (TNZ) A bloody clash erupted between two communities in Edo State leading to the killing of seven persons and injuring six others.
TheNewsZenith reports that the clash erupted between Gbelemonti and Maidoti communities in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state
The Police Command in the state confirmed the incident in a statement, obtained by TheNewsZenith on Sunday.
CSP Moses Yamu, the Command’s spokesman, said the Police received a distress call on Friday, Feb. 21 regarding an ongoing clash between the two communities.
According to Tamu, upon receipt of the information, the operatives of the Iguobazuwa Police Division, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Vigilantes, were deployed to the area.
“The team evacuated some casualties to the hospital, where seven persons were confirmed.
“Six others with serious injuries are currently receiving treatment,” TheNewsZenith quotes Yamu as stating.

He further stated that the joint operation has restored normalcy to the communities.
The Spokesman noted that the command has begun an investigation into the cause of the communal clash.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Betty Otimenyin, has stepped into the case.
Otimenyin reportedly vowed not to leave a stone unturned to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
She described the incident as avoidable, urging members of the public to always channel their grievances to the appropriate authority, rather than taking laws into their own hands. (TNZ)
