Cambridge University College has announced a Nigerian-born Professor, Ijeoma Uchegbu, as its next President.
The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has, therefore, sent a congratulatory message to the professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NIDCOM issued a statement, congratulating Uchegbu.
“A Nigerian-born Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience, Ijeoma Uchegbu, has been announced as the seventh President of Wolfson College,” NiDCOM stated.
TheNewsZenith learnt that Wolfson College is one of the 31 colleges of the University of Cambridge.
“Elated by the news, Chairman of NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has rejoiced with Uchegbu, describing the appointment as well deserved.
“The appointment of Prof. Uchegbu did not come to her as a surprise. NiDCOM boss knew the academician’s pedigree in the field of research and knowledge.
“Her appointment has further confirmed that there is a reward for hard work. And Nigerians abroad are endowed with people of integrity and excellence,” Balogun state.

Uchegbu, known for her ground-breaking work in nanoparticle drug delivery, is currently a Professor of Pharmaceutical Neuroscience at University College London (UCL).
She will succeed the current President, Prof. Jane Clarke, on Oct. 1, 2024.
The Nigerian-born professor completed her pharmacy studies at the University of Benin in 1981 before attending the University of Lagos for her Master’s degree.
TheNewsZenith recalls that in the last one week, NIDCOM boss has had cause to celebrate seven Nigerian achievers on their various global appointments and awards.
They include Dr Olusimbo Ige, the first black Female Commissioner of Health in Chicago, Canada and Dr Oluwatosin Olateju, the first black woman Commissioner for Public Health in Maryland, USA.
Others are the UK-based Fene Osakwe, a winner of the Global Cyber Security Educator of the Year.
In Sports field, Asisat Oshoala, Victor Osimhen and Chiamaka Nnadozie won awards in the 2023 Confederation of African Football (CAF).
