Police arraign man for alleged stealing

The Police, on Monday, arraigned a 29-year-old man, Yusuf Ahmed, before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 35 batteries and 37 inverters worth N5.9 million.

The defendant, residing in the Orile-Agege area of Lagos State, is standing trial for conspiracy and stealing.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant, a warehouse officer at TD Africa Ltd located in Gbagada, committed the offence between April and September 2022.

Perezi said that the Auditor-in-Chief of the company, Mrs Rose Elacai, reported the incident to the Police on Sept. 20, 2022.

In her report, Elacai said the company carried out an audit on the defendant, who was a staff then, and posted to Alaba International Market to supply inverters and batteries to partners.

The company later discovered that N5,995,503 was missing and goods supplied to him could not be recovered.

Perezi added that when the company invited the defendant to give account of the missing money, he couldn’t give a satisfactory explanation.

The prosecutor further said the offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O Tanimola admitted the defendant to a N450,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola adjourned the case until July 19 for mention.
