The Police Command in Delta State has confirmed the death of a suspected armed robber during a gun battle with its operatives.
DSP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer for the State Command, announced this in a statement in Asaba.
Edafe stated that the operation, leading to the death of the suspects, followed residents’ complaints about house-to-house robbery in Asaba.
According to Edafe, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abaniwonda Olufemi, had earlier warned against hoodlums robbing innocent residents.
“Olugbemi had directed Area Commanders and DPOs to intensify efforts against these criminals,” Edafe stated.
“Responding to a distress call at Marble Hill Junction, operatives from Delta Hawk, in collaboration with Policemen from Opkanam Division, engaged the armed robbers.

“The criminals opened fire upon sighting the police, leading to a confrontation where one suspect was fatally injured. The others managed to escape.
“The wounded suspect was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
“Operatives from Delta Hawk, in a combined effort with Policemen attached to Opkanam Division, responded to a distress call about an armed robbery operation at Marble Hill Junction.
“The armed robbers, on sighting the Police, opened fire on the team. The team responded during which one of the suspects sustained fatal injuries while others escaped.
“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died while receiving treatment,” the statement read in part.
