Sudan: You’ll complete your education here – JAMB Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has pledged the Board’s readiness to provide necessary infrastructure to enable the returning students from war-torn Sudan to complete their education in Nigeria if they so wish.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, made the pledge while receiving a delegation from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

NiDCOM Chairman, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, visited JAMB to discuss how student returnees can complete their studies in Nigeria.

Oloyede expressed his readiness to work with universities regulator, the National Universities Commission on education transition for the affected students.

He, however, drew attention to the Arusha/Addis Ababa declaration on inter-universities transferring of students.

According to him, under the declaration, a transfer student “must spend at least two years at receiving university before certification”.

The Registrar pointed out that university admission was personal to individuals.

“Each student can approach institutions of his/her choice while JAMB will streamline the admission based on the laid down guidelines,” he said.

Oloyede listed some of the guidelines to include tendering transcripts of examination records of previous years and ensuring that the university applied to has accreditation for the course.

For those whose courses can be completed online, he said the National Open University of Nigeria has provision for them.

“I advise both students and parents to study the rules very well and comply.

“They should ensure admissions are ratified with issuance of admission letter from JAMB to the students concerned at any level.

“This should be after they have been appropriately transferred to their universities of choice.

Earlier, Dabiri-Erewa said NiDCOM received calls from parents, expressing concerns about how the students will complete their studies in Nigeria.

She said that the guidelines released by JAMB will be made public and posted on NiDCOM websites and other social media handles of the commission.

She thanked JAMB Registrar for being a strategic partner with NIDCOM.
