The Association of Residents Doctors (ARD), University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan has joined its national body on a five-day warning strike to demand better welfare and overhaul of healthcare system.
Its chapter president, Dr Abiodun Ogundipe, announced this in an interaction with newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Ogundipe said the strike bordered on repositioning Nigerian healthcare system, brain drain and improving welfare of resident doctors.
“We recall long hours of waiting before patients see doctors because of manpower shortages and people leaving for greener pastures.
“One of the demands is for the Federal Government to call for negotiations regarding issues pertaining to our members’ welfare.
“We have issue with 2023 Medical Residency Fund and need to review Consolidated Medical Salaries Structure.

The government reviewed the medical salary last in 2009.
“We also have salary arrears for 2014-2016 and a consequential adjustment of minimum wage arrears, yet to be paid among other issues,” he said.
The president listed other issues the non-domestication of the Medical Training Acts and non-payment of salaries arrears by the state governments.
The warning strike took effect immediately at UCH as many resident doctors stayed away from their duty posts.
Other medical professionals are, however, on duty.
