Youths mount football pitches on Lagos roads as elections get underway

As the presidential election gets underway, youths mounted several football pitches on major highways in parts of the Lagos metropolis.

Correspondents of The NewsZenith, monitoring the elections, observed that no fewer than 15 temporary football pitches were mounted.

This happened between Costain and Oyingbo on Apapa road in the Mainland Local Government area.

Some of the pitches were mounted very close to military checkpoints on the road.

Also, there were fewer security operatives on some of the roads and strategic points in preparation for the general elections.

Our correspondents also monitored the roads from Ojuelegba, national Stadium to Costain and Ikotun, Okota to  Ajegunle and Iganmu areas.

They observed that there were fewer many checkpoints and security operatives on the roads.

This is unlike the 2015 and 2019 general elections which saw a heavy presence of military and other security operatives on major highways in Lagos state.

Apart from Mushin and Oshodi areas where there were few checkpoints with heavily armed military officials, only few policemen were seen in other areas within the metropolis.

Meanwhile, in Surulere, the presence of security personnel had yet to be seen at the time of filing this report.

There was the restriction of movement for vehicles but sports enthusiasts, food sellers and newspaper vendors were going about their businesses.
