9 die in Christmas Day accident in Osun

No fewer than nine persons died  in a road accident on Christmas day in Insha town Osun State.

TheNewsZenith reports that the accident, involved a trailer loaded with beans and passengers, heading to Niger State from Edo.

The accident occurred along the Ikirun-Offa highway near Inisa town.

Rescue team deposited bodies of the dead passengers at the Orotunde Hospital morgue in Ikirun.

They also took injured passengers to the same hospital for first aid treatment.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC in Osun, Adeleke Kehinde,  confirmed the accident.

Kehinde said the accident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Yidi Junction, Inisa town.

”Today, Monday 25th of December, 2023, one Mitsubishi Canter with Niger State plate number MNA-606-SB, was involved in an accident in the early hours.

”The lorry was carrying bags of beans heading to Benin in Edo from Niger State.

”The incidence resulted in the death of nine people,” the spokesperson said.

He added that FRSC officers evacuated and moved the three injured passengers to Orotunde Hospital, Ikirun.

”They deposited remains of the deceased at the hospital’s morgue.

“Bags of beans and the vehicle involved have been evacuated to Inisa Police Divisional Headquarters.”
