Former President Muhammadu Buhari commiserated with the government and people of Morocco over the earthquake that occurred, on Friday, south of Marrakech.
In a statement issued, on Monday by Garba Shehu, his spokesman, Buhari said the incident deeply saddened him.
TheNewsZenith recalls that a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Morocco Friday at 11.11 p.m. local time (2211 GMT) with 18.5 kilometres depth.
The death toll has risen to 2,012, according to local media reports.
The epicentre of the tremor was near the town of Ighil, roughly 70 kilometres (44 miles) south of Marrakech.
Buhari said the death of hundreds of people, injury to many and damage in many places in the strong earthquake “deeply saddened him”.
Shehu said the former president sent a personal condolence letter to King Muhammad the V1, the ruler of Morocco with whom he said he had a good working relationship while in office.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may Allah bring peace and solace to those affected.
“While extending, once again, my condolences, please accept, Your Majesty, the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem,” Buhari said.
