Court restrains NYSC from denying issued Gov. Mbah’s certificate

From Our Correspondent

A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from further denying issuing the NYSC certificate to Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

In a judgement on Monday, presiding Justice Inyang Ekwo, held that evidence before him showed that Mbah properly participated in the NYSC programme.

Ekwo added that NYSC, thereafter, issued a certificate of completion to him.

He also held that NYSC misrepresented facts in its claim that it did not issue the certificate, which Mbah submitted to the INEC before the last governorship election.

The court faulted the NYSC for not producing before the court, two files containing information about Mbah’s participation in the programme.

Ekwo noted that NYSC handled the case with levity.

The judge, therefore, awarded N5 million as damages in favour of Mbah.

TheNewsZenith reports the Gov. Mbah had won the 2023 Enugu governorship election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.

Labour Party (LP) and it’s candidate, Edeoga Jonathan challenged Mbah at the state governorship election tribunal but lost.

Jonathan and LP had raised the issue of alleged NYSC certificate forgery against the governor, who defeated them at the Tribunal.
