An adage that all days for the thief but one day for the owner, played out recently in Ode-Aye, Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State when a farmer vier into another man’s farm to steal cocoa seeds.

On Wednesday, TheNewsZenith reported that the 32-year-old farmer, Femi Balogun, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing cocoa seeds worth N100,000.

The defendant, whose address was not given, faces a count charge bordering on stealing.

Balogun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

The Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on Oct. 12 at about 8.00 a.m.

Orogbemi said the defendant sneaked into the Oronyo camp, Ode-Aye in the Okitipupa magisterial district Camp and stole the cocoa seeds belonging to one Isiaka Wasiu.

According to the prosecution, the offence is contrary and punishable under Section 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, granted a N100,000 bail to the defendant with a surety in like sum.

Akinlosetu said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must present evidence of a two-year tax payment to the state government.

He adjourned the case until Dec.12, for further hearing.
