The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) is seeking collaboration with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to reduce energy poverty in Nigeria.
The collaboration will be through the domestication of renewable energy solutions and to fast-track industrial development of the country.
The Deputy Head of UNIDO Nigeria Office, Mr Adekunle Olusile led a delegation on a visit to the Management of NASENI, on Monday, in Abuja where he sought the collaboration.
Olusile said UNIDO sought to facilitate German companies and research institutions’ collaborations with the NASENI.
This is aimed at reducing energy waste and supporting the present government’s food production agenda.
Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NASENI, expressed appreciation to UNIDO for extending the hands of fellowship to the agency.
TheNewsZenith reports that Mrs Nonyem Onyechi, the Coordinating Director of planning and Business Development, received the UNIDO team on behalf of the NASENI CEO.
Onyechi told the visitors that NASENI has the mandate of driving Nigeria’s industrial development through technology transfer and domestication.
She added that it also produces capital goods for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs generally.
In a short presentation on behalf of the Agency, Mr Emmanuel Ajani, Deputy Director of engineering Infrastructure of NASENI also made a short presentation to the UNIDO team.
Ajani detailed various intervention programmes and projects of the Agency in the renewable energy, agricultural and industrial sectors.

He also showcased to the delegation various technological innovations, products and machines produced by NASENI.
Michael Schmidt, the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Germany Team Leader, remarked that the organisation mobilises investments and technologies for sustainable development.
UNIDO, according to him, also supports investors and companies by facilitating technology transfer from Germany to developing countries.
“Therefore, the visit to NASENI is like a fact-finding for collaboration between German companies and the Agency.
“Such collaboration can lead to the socio-economic development of the country,” Schmidt said.
“UNIDO is seeking to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government on food production agenda through food processing and packaging.
“It also seeks to reduce energy waste through biogas production. And renewable energy solutions such as solar PV and solar batteries among others.
To take the conversations toward action, NASENI and UNIDO set up a working group to drive the initiatives. The proposed group will also bring all prospective partners on board.
Some of the German companies represented at the meeting included Bloomhill Agroservices, (B)energy, Wilo Pumps, GEA, EMPO-NI and University Weihenstephan Triesdorf among others.
