Following the spate of attacks on warehouses by hungry Nigerians, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Tuesday, solicited the military`s support to secure its facilities in Kaduna, North West Zone.

The North West Zonal Coordinator NEMA, Mr Imam Garki, made the request when he sent a team of the agency on a visit to the Commanding Officer of the 2 Battalion Nigerian Army in Kaduna.

Abdulkadir Mohammed, Head of Unit, Search and Rescue of the agency, who represented Garki, led the team.

Garki said he is seeking to strengthen security at various warehouses in the zone, following the recent incident of looting of food items in government facilities.

“We are here to solicit for military support to have standby security operatives to safeguard the agency’s warehouse facilities,” the coordinator said.

He noted that the agency has a working relationship with the Nigerian Army.  The military, he said, serves as one of the Disaster Response Units (DRUs) of the agency.

Responding, the Commanding Officer, Lt.-Col. Abdulqadir Abdullahi assured NEMA of the Army`s relentless cooperation in dealing with the current situation.
