Obi defeats Tinubu in Lagos by 9,848 votes

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has upset the Presidential candidate of the ruling APC, Bola Tinubu in Lagos State in the contest by a margin of 9,848 votes.

The State Collation Officer of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Adenike Oladiji, announced the results of the election on Monday.
Oladiji is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
She said that LP scored 582,454 votes followed by APC polled 572,606 votes and PDP garnered 75,750 votes.
Other political parties scored less than 10,000 votes each.
The INEC concluded collation of Presidential Election’s results in Lagos State, on Monday, after about 18 hours of collation.
The Presidential and NASS elections held simultaneously across 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory on Saturday.
The collation of results from the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Lagos state started at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday.

The team rounded up the results collation at noon on Monday at the Media Centre of INEC’s headquarters at Yaba.
The exercise was, however, stopped intermittently to wait for the arrival of results from some LGAs within the period.
Oladiji called on various party agents who signed the result before she moved to Abuja for submission at the National Collation.
According to her, the total accredited voters were 1,347,152 while the total valid votes were 1,271,451.
A total of 1,335,729 people voted while election officers declared 64,278 votes as invalid and rejected them.
The collation was conducted under the watch of party agents, domestic and foreign observers, security and media among other stakeholders.
The NewsZenith reports that INEC held both Presidential and NASS elections simultaneously across 36 states and FCT on Saturday.
Reacting to the outcome, Mr Olusegun Mobolaji, the Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Committee, Lagos State said the results showed that INEC had passed the test of democracy.
