The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion of Eid-ul Mawlid (the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad) as an opportunity to commiserate with flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Kamaldeen Akintunde, Secretary-General of the OMC issued the the statement and emailed it to TheNewsZenith, on Sunday, in Abeokuta.
OMC called on the Muslim Ummah to pray for those affected by the recent devastating floods.
It regretted that the flooding had compounded the state’s struggle to recover from the long-standing impacts of terrorism and banditry.
The Council under the leadership of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, as President-General, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and destruction of property in Borno.
It described the situation as both heartbreaking and tragic.
OMC further acknowledged the increased burden the floods have placed on Borno State’s fragile recovery from insecurity.
It commended the federal and Borno state governments’ efforts at providing relief and support for the victims.
OMC equally extended its sympathies to the people of Sokoto, Bayelsa and other states that have experienced similar disasters.
It offered prayers for divine mercy and protection against future calamities.
OMC emphasized the importance of enforcing relevant laws and regulations that would guarantee the protection of citizens against natural disasters.

“The N3 billion Ecological Fund provided to each state by the Federal Government is a noteworthy and commendable step.
“We urge state governments to utilise the funds wisely and prudently to address environmental challenges,” TheNewsZenith quotes Akintunde as stating.
On the current economic hardship, the Council expressed concern over the difficulties Nigerians face due to the rising cost of petrol and other essentials of life.
It highlighted the ongoing struggles with insecurity and the food crisis, noting that life has become unbearable for many.
While acknowledging the government’s efforts to alleviate the situation, OMC urged both the federal and state governments to accelerate their plans to revamp the economy.
The Council called for immediate and pragmatic steps to lower the soaring prices of food and essential commodities.
It added that the burden of inflation is affecting both the rich and the poor.
“As the political atmosphere begins to heat up in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, we advise politicians to act with caution and responsibility.
“This is to ensure that their actions contribute to peace and stability in the nation.
