OSSG sets up assets recovery panel

The Osun State Government has set up an Assets Recovery Panel to retrieve assets allegedly stolen by officers of previous administration.

This is contained in a statement issued by the spokesman for Gov. Ademola Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed.

The NewsZenith received a copy of the statement on Saturday.

Rasheed said the government constituted the panel to recover government’s property in the hands of private individuals.

Such ex-government officials were those who served in the previous administration.

He alleged that some former officials of the state went away with various models of vehicles illegally.

The statement quoted the Chairman of the Assets Recovery Committee, Dr Bashiru Salami, as saying that there was no law that authorised any elected or appointed officials to go with state’s vehicles after completing their tenure of office.

”We have conducted due diligence on government assets.

”The committee has concluded that the affected past officials should return government’s vehicles in their possession.

“This is the first batch of vehicles retrieval.

”We will soon come up with the second batch.

”All affected officers should return vehicles in their possession immediately to avoid coercive procedures for recovery of state’s assets.

“In the list of officers indicted, former Gov. Oyetola alone has 11 vehicles in his possession.

”The vehicles range from Lexus Jeep, Toyota Prado jeeps and assorted models.

“The wife, Mrs Kafayat, also has several brands of government vehicles in her possession,” Salami said.

He said that they took away the vehicles against the provisions of the law.

“The former deputy governor has more than seven government’s vehicles in his custody, contrary to the provisions of the law.

“We also directed a serving senator to return five earth moving vehicles to the Osun State Agricultural Development Programme.

”The vehicles include motor grader, bulldozer and soil compactor machine, among others,” the statement read in part.
