Odosengolu (Ogun), Dec. 28, ’25 (TNZ) A medical practitioner, Dr AbdulAzeez Ashekun, has spoken on the need for Nigerian Muslims to take preventive measures against stroke.
TheNewsZenith reports that Ashekun gave the advice during a four-day National Islamic Training Programme (NITP) organised by The Muslim Congress (TMC).
The NITP, which is the 32nd edition and held at Vanguard Academy, Odosengolu in Ogun State ended on Sunday, Dec. 28.
Ashekun, who works at Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Shagamu, informed the delegates that stroke is an emergency medical situation that could be managed successfully.
He went on to educate the delegates on all possible causes and preventive measures against the medical condition.
“Stroke is basically caused by blockage or bust of the arteries.
“It is more among the middle class and those living below the poverty line and recently young people also experience it.

“Warning signs include transient system attacks such as face dropping, arm weakness, slurred speech among others,” TheNewsZenith quotes Ashekun as saying.
The medical expert noted that, preventive measures include regular check-up, regular exercise, and reduced food intake.
He added that regular fasting as done by Muslims on Mondays and Thursdays, good rest, reduction in salt intake, and reduction in fatty foods also help preventing stroke.
According to him, eating healthy food, avoidance of smoke, alcohol among others are other preventive measures against the deadly health condition.
He told the delegates that stroke is preventable but that people must observe preventive measures.
Also contributing, Prof. Ibrahim Oreoagba said six to seven hours sleep daily and about 20 to 30 minutes short nap reduce the risk of stroke.
“Regular exercise and good intake of vegetables are other measures that help in reducing this medical condition and other cardiovascular diseases by about 50 per cent,” TheNewsZenith quotes Oreagba as saying. (TNZ)
