4 die, scores wounded in India passenger train crash

Four passengers died and scores of others sustained injuries as a dozen train cars derailed in Uttar Pradesh, India, on Thursday, according to the emergency response teams at the crash site.

Gonda District Authorities are managing relief efforts with the help of residents from the vicinity.

Also, Indian Railways said they have deployed multiple ambulances to the scene.

In the video footage shared online, the camera captured survivors of the crash crouching next to the overturned train carriages. Rescue efforts are in progress.

The train had been en route from Dibrugarh in Assam to Chandigarh, Punjab.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has directed officials to prioritise taking the injured to the hospital for appropriate treatment.

Local news sources reported that authorities have initiated a thorough investigation in response to the incident.

According to reports, all trains scheduled to travel along the route have either been redirected or completely cancelled.

In the meantime, the Railway Ministry said it would give compensation to those victims of the incident. The ministry will also compensate the families of the deceased.

In June, a tragic incident resulted in the death of nine persons and 41 others injured.

This is as a goods train struck the Kanchanjunga Express, en route from Agartala in Tripura to Sealdah in West Bengal. Authorities attributed the accident to ‘human error’.

Last year, a significant train collision took place in Odisha, killing nearly 300 passengers and leaving over 1,200 others wounded.
