The APM Terminals, Apapa said it had expanded its barge operations to accommodate more volumes of non-oil exports

TheNewsZenith reports that Caroline Aubert-Adewuyi, the Terminals’ Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), announced this while exchanging views with newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.

Aubert-Adewuyi spoke with newsmen after the second edition of the Exporters Forum.

She said the forum has provided valuable feedback from exporters, which has helped to improve APM Terminals services.

The CCO highlighted the improvements to include expanded barge slots, new booking app and enhanced rail services for smoother logistics.

`This forum is an opportunity to get feedback from our customers.

“This aims to continue to build products that will help the exporters grow their business and Nigeria’s exports,’’ she said.

Also speaking, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of APM Terminals, Courage Obadagbonyi, highlighted the importance of non-oil exports in driving foreign exchange, job creation and reducing inflation.

“APM Terminals Apapa is committed to advancing the Federal Government’s economic diversification efforts by promoting non-oil exports.

“In this regard, we have recorded a 25 per cent increase in non-oil exports in throughput.

“We handled 51,000 TEUs in the first half of 2024. This is compared to 47,000 TEUs in the same period of 2023,’’ TheNewsZenith quotes Obadagbonyi as saying.

He underscored the need for further investments in transport infrastructure and streamlined export procedures. “There is also the need to ensure higher-quality products to increase Nigeria’s non-oil export potential.

Apapa Terminal’s Head of Operations, Riyaz Melekolangath, said the terminal has created an extended gate access and dedicated export lanes to reduce container turnaround times.

TheNewsZenith reports that some industry leaders, who attended the event praised APM Terminals for its responsive export processes.

They advised the terminals to focus on reducing carbon emissions through rail transport.

The Managing Director of Bueno Logistics Limited, Mr Jetson Nwankwo, commended APM Terminals for promoting the use of rail to evacuate cargo from the port.

“The carbon emission of trains is less than that of trucks.

“If you calculate it by using $10 per pound of carbon, you will discover that APM Terminals can have an award of carbon credit that can offset other expenses.

“If terminals get some carbon credits, they can lower the rates they give on demurrage, storage or handling charges as the case may be,’’ Nwankwo said.
