The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit (MSSNLagos) has called on security agencies to prioritise the safety of educational institutions as Nigerians brace up for a nationwide protest.

Amir (President) of MSSNLagos, Kamoldeen Abiona, made the call in a press statement, emailed to TheNewsZenith, on Tuesday in Lagos.

Abiona equally urged Muslim youths, in particular, to exercise caution.

The student leader blamed the government for the widespread economic challenges facing Nigerians.

He expressed concern over the planned ‘hunger and hardship’ protest scheduled for Aug. 1.

“Given the current climate, protection of schools, campuses and student communities must be a top priority.

“We cannot afford to lose our educational infrastructure at this critical juncture.

“Thus far, the government’s performance has not impressed us, we implore them to prioritise the safety of our educational institutions and prevent any attacks.

“The safety and well-being of students are critically important.

“Any potential for violence or unrest should be promptly addressed.

“This is necessary to prevent harm to innocent children and students,” Abiona stated.

He also expressed deep concern about the protest’s organisation.

According to him, there is an absence of a clear plan to prevent violence, property damage and loss of life.

“We acknowledge the prevalence of hunger and hardship in the nation.

“However, the aggrieved groups should not address these challenges through the destruction of property or loss of life.

“As students, the scars of the #EndSARS violence remain vivid in our minds.

“We recall the chaos, confusion, and widespread damage to cultural heritage and infrastructure resulting from the lack of coordination.

“Currently, there is no evidence that this protest will be peaceful, focused and constructive.

“It may escalate into violence and destruction.

“Consequently, we call for the safety of students and educational institutions.

“MSSN Lagos remains dedicated to working towards a better and fairer society for all,” Abiona reinstated.
